Raise Great Kids With These Parenting Tips

Child 1Sometimes, the best reaction is no reaction at all. When your child throws a temper tantrum or fit, remain calm. Do not try to bribe him or her to behave, but also avoid making irritated or caustic remarks with the intention of threatening or shaming the child. Instead, continue speaking normally, getting chores done and addressing the child, as if he or she was not acting up.

Never under any circumstances, buy or accept the gift of an used car seat. Your child’s safety is way too important to risk. Unbeknownst to you, the car seat may have gone through an accident or be missing pieces. The plastic in used car seats may also be old and unable to withstand the force of a car crash.

Be friends with your child on any social media sites to help you monitor their other friends and activities. While some kids may complain about their parent being able to see everything they post, remind them that social media accounts are a privilege and not a right. Being friends on-line is a non-intrusive way to keep an eye on their activities.

Use your smart phone to entertain your child. You can download a variety of applications and games that will leave your child mesmerized. This is particularly useful if you need to complete a chore or make dinner for your family. Letting your child play with the phone should give you a nice stretch of uninterrupted time to accomplish your goals.

Your children should know exactly what you expect of them, in terms of academic performance and general attitude. If your children don’t know this and don’t understand, this is your fault and your fault, alone, as a parent. You should be doing whatever is necessary to make sure that your children understand what is expected of them.

When your child is misbehaving, try getting down on your knees to talk to them. This allows you to look at your child directly in the eyes, which makes the interaction more serious and uncomfortable for them. Talking to your child at the eye level can be much more effective than shouting from a standing position.

Make sure you have your child’s password for any social media sites so you can easily monitor on-line activities. Whether you ever log on to their account or not, knowing you can encourages your child to be more responsible with the information or photographs shared and their interactions with others.

As you and your child develop a relationship you can see the rewards of your work from being an understand and patient parent. There will be a number of challenges, and since children don’t come with an instruction manual it’s kind of hit or miss on some things but eventually you’ll get the hang of it and it is very much worth it.

I sell toys. I own a little shop.
