The Paywall Trend [Infographic]

Have you ever tried to read an interesting article and received the “You must be a paid subscriber to view this content” message? If so, you’ve been paywalled.

Paywalls are a growing trend among newspapers and other online publishers to increase revenue and secure reader loyalty. Over three hundred online newspapers in the US have some form of paywall in place, and that number is expected to continue growing in the coming months. Paywalls come with many benefits as well as downfalls, so it’s up to the discretion of the paper to decide whether or not to implement one. How much would you pay to read the news or your favorite columnist?
