We learned today that GameFly is getting in to the mobile gaming business. According to the press release, GamyFly plans to produce games for the iOS and Android platforms “as well as launching the independent GameFly GameStore for Android later this fall. ”
What I was really intrigued by was what followed – “the company has set aside a game development fund to work with mobile developers that are in the process of making a great game, but need the extra resources to publish and promote their titles.” and they provided an email address for submissions from mobile game developer (GameDev@GameFly.com). I'm sure they will get a lot of trash but they can certainly find some gems from what I assume will be thousands of submissions.
This is an interesting route to take and could end up being very profitable for them if they find some nice diamonds in the rough.
I look forward to reviewing many games coming out of the new GameFly mobile app production unit. So I wish them luck in finding good quality app ideas, great programmers, designers and testers to make it all happen.
