Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a must see.
I was thoroughly engaged in the entire movie from start to finish. Although I must say that James Franco did not do anything for me in his character, the movie was still all thumbs up.
From what I can remember about the original movie from 1968 was the story of an astronaut crew who crash-land on a strange planet. Although the planet appeared desolate at first, the surviving crew members stumble upon a society in which apes have evolved into beings with human-like intelligence and speech. The apes have assumed the role of the dominant species and humans are mute creatures wearing animal skins.
Then when one of the astronauts wandered the beach and ran into the Statue of Liberty I knew that he was on earth but possibly in the future. There were so many possibilities that could spin off of this and were tried. Mark Walberg starred in one of the spin offs and did not work for me at all.
Hence, I was very anxious to see how Rise of the Planet of the Ape would pan out. It did more than that for me.
Although there were no cameo appearances from Charlton Heston or Roddy McDowal for obvious reasons I did hear a cameo phrase. Can you tell me what that phrase was?
I would definitely recommend this movie and if you do I would love to hear from you.
See you at the movies.
Eric

Thanks for the review Eric!
Wasn’t planning on seeing this movie but after reading your review I will be adding it to my must see list. Thanks!
I too saw the movie and was captured by it. Though I might be biased as I was a huge fan of the original franchise. Any chance I was able to see it, late night or morning, I would watch it. Let’s see, there was Planet of the Apes, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, and Battle for the Planet of the Apes. And let’s not forget the Television series Planet of the Apes and Return to the Planet of the Apes. That’s a lot of apes.
Am I forgetting something? Oh yeah,
“Get your filthy paws off me you dirty ape!”
Nice Post Eric!!
Definitely putting this on my list of “to see’s” when I have time. It is always interesting to see where the newest movie goes in relation to the older movies. Great review Eric! Thank you

@chrisbThank you for you response. And yes that was the cameo phrase from the original movie. Charlton Heston’s famous line used in the New Movie. I am very impressed with your knowledge of the entire Planet of the Apes repertoire. Kudos and once again thank you for taking the time to read my critique.
