At the risk of falling into the often ridiculed “women love shopping” stereotype, I enjoyed the movie, Confessions of a Shopaholic. The whole opening montage by Isla Fisher's character, Rebecca Bloomwood, describes exactly how I feel when I see a store: You know that thing when you see someone cute and he smiles and your heart kind of goes like warm butter sliding down hot toast? Well that's what it's like when I see a store. Only it's better.
As magical as the shopping experience can be, cleaning out hills of clothes piled in my closet isn't nearly as enchanting. Once every couple of months I go on a splurge of dresses, skirts, handbags, and of course t-shirts (apparently I can never have enough t-shirts); most of which I don't wear on a regular basis or even at all. This is where charity comes in.
Now you can do the same by participating in Men's Wearhouse‘s National Suit Drive throughout the month of August. Help fight against unemployment by donating your gently-used professional attire to help men and women join the workforce. Men's Wearhouse will collect gently used men's and women's suits, shirts, jackets, ties, belts, and shoes and distribute these items to more than 150 nonprofit partners around the nation. According to July 2011 statistics, over 7.1 million working age American men are unemployed. The professional articles of clothing you donate will help them win interviews and decrease the level of unemployment.
Men's Wearhouse hopes to top 100,000 articles of clothing in thirty days. They will also match each suit donated with a donation of a brand-new tie. In addition, for every “like” on Facebook or Facebook Places “check-in” at a Men's Wearhouse store, Men's Wearhouse will donate one dollar to the cause, up to $10,000. Follow or join the conversation on Twitter with “#SuitDrive.”
