Six years ago, 13 March 2006, programmers began working on the application that would become Twitter. In 2011, Jack Dorsey tweeted the history over the course of two weeks. This is an aggregation of those tweets.

Happy Birthday Twitter ! It’s been 5 years and we can honestly say that there is no other single piece of software that has taken the technology world by storm, in such a short period of time. And if you think about it – we haven’t even scratched the surface of capabilities and utilization; since the majority of people still aren’t using Twitter. It really is a concentrated microcosm of society that has embraced this communication tool.

In celebration of their birthday; Twitter has launched a new site: discover.twitter.com that highlights a variety of different users of the service. They’ve also released a new video encouraging you to “Follow Your Interests. Discover Your World.”
