Get it while you can – Apple, through its refurbished iPad discount program, has lowered prices on iPads to amounts close to their internal “Friends and Family” pricing.
The 16GB refurbished Wi-Fi iPad, is down to $429 while the 32GB is as low as $499.
These prices are clearly marked on Apple's site as “special” and for a “limited time” and again, only apply to refurbished iPads.
If you haven't purchased a refurb unit from Apple in the past, have no fears. I worked for the company for 6 years and know for a fact that all refurb units (regardless of the product) have been tested, retested and passed through a rigorous quality assurance program. These units, for instance, all come with a new battery, new case, and a full one-year warranty. The USB cable and power adapter are included, as is Apple's offer to provide free shipping.
I highly suggest if you're looking to stuff one of these in someones Christmas stocking – you move very quickly.
Head over to the Apple Certified Refurbished iPad page here.
But I think the price is still too high for a refurbished product. Although, you can be assured that coming from Apple, the quality is still very good.
