Being someone who runs their own business and works 2 other jobs it's a bit difficult to really let go of everything in order to go on vacation. I'm planning on heading out to California in a couple weeks and plan to be completely worry free. So here are my steps to going on vacation worry free.
Start planning a month in advance
All my business operate on deadlines and different things so planning in advance is a must so I can not worry about working while I'm on vacation. I carefully find out when my deadlines are during my vacation and which ones take place immediately after my vacation. I then make sure I block out some extra time each day in order to make sure I have time to get all of these done. I don't want to come home and have to rush to finish 3 or 4 projects.
Plan out Finances
I also figure out my finances for a month out of my vacation so I don't take a huge hit whenever I take 10 days off from work and then have a ridiculously low paycheck. It doesn't knock me off, it's simply planning a budget. On a side note: I also budget extensively for my trip so I can save up money in the weeks leading up to the trip.
Plan out Vacation
Spontaneous road trips are definitely fun and have their place, but the one problem I consistently have with them is that it's hard to make it happen when you have no idea where your going, where your staying, and what you are doing while on that vacation. It's good to have at least a little bit of structure using whatever apps or online resources available, that way, you're not blindly just going somewhere hoping that you find something cool to do, or that this sight is open to the public.
Secure your Home
My family had a home alarm system when I was younger that would immediately send a police squad car out to the location if the company knew you were out of town. That was a feature that really helped us have peace of mind. In todays world you can do a lot more with your home security system. A friend of mind has a home security system out in Rockwall, Tx and he is able to monitor his cameras and set the alarm all from his iPhone. No more turning around thinking that you forgot about setting it.
The main point of all this is to carefully plan out every facet of your vacation in order to enjoy a stress free trip.
