Description from IMDB:

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, discovers vampires are planning to take over the United States. He makes it his mission to eliminate them.

Official Trailer

Yes, you read it right – Honest Abe killing the undead.  In this film, an adaptation of the 2010 novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, our 16th President was not only the commander in chief but he was a significant human force in the battle against vampires.

When I first saw the trailer last week, I hadn’t yet read the book though it had piqued my interest previously.  Based on the couple minutes of promo video and the synopsis at IMDB, I decided to read it to get the full story.  Since this is not a book review I won’t go in to a lot of details about the writing but I will say that I enjoyed how the author used Lincoln’s fictitious diaries with additional narrative to tell the story of a passionate man who loathed vampires.  While there are some good amongst the undead, these are not the sparkly, friendly vampires from the Twilight series.  These are vampires who live among us, they can come out during daylight (again, no sparkles), and they can switch from a normal appearance to an ebony-eyed, fang- bearing demon.  I really enjoyed how the author mashed up known facts and theories with the vampire tale and took Abe from what I envisioned to be a tall skinny, yet brilliant man to… all that plus physical power and speed.

I obviously don’t yet know how closely the movie will follow the book but if it’s stays true, it should be a fun adventure.  I'm interested to know if any of you have read the book or if you're looking forward to the movie.

As with many major films there are plenty of ways to read and view more about the movie –
