Over the past couple of years there’s been a shift in the requirements for what was once known as the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, or MCSE, certificate program. This certificate was generally regarded as the top-notch certification for Microsoft; it was a prestigious professional certificate to have on your wall and resume.

Recently, however, the MCSE underwent a name change and became the Microsoft Certified Master (MCM). In January 2014, that title and certificate was retired and the MCSE classification revived. Only this time it will be known by the name of Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert.

So what’s different now?

The major differences in the MCSE lie in the content of the certification. Even after the shift from MCSE to MCM, the certification program was directed toward a largely service style of learning.

Although the term “engineer” was often the focus of concern among IT professionals, at least one thing was certain about possessing the MCSE certification. Any systems administrator or IT professional with the MCSE was exposed to a wide range of facets of the system. An MCSE-certified professional knew pretty much all the aspects of network operations.

What caused the shift?

Perhaps it was a decline in new certifications when the name change happened that unnerved Microsoft enough to decide to restructure its program. The reality is that the entire company was in a huge transitional period. After the launch of the highly disappointing Vista Operating System, not too many people were keen on Microsoft for the changes.

Added to the equation was the rather shaky economy and its effect on the computer market generally. Many people were opting to head back to school rather than try to obtain more professional certifications. In an industry that favors one or the other for professional standards, a college education that offers long-term benefits wins over a technical certification with a three-year shelf life before the holder has to renew.

Back to the future

Microsoft must have seen these developments as a threat because the company changed the entire program this year. It brought back the popular MCSE designation but gave it a different name.

Microsoft also changed the entire process. Instead of a single exam with a wide range of applicable topics, the new MCSE certificate is specialized. When you take the Microsoft exam, you declare a focus and that’s what you’re tested on. Should you wish to master and be certified in another area, you have to take the courses and a renewal exam based on that focus.

So where does this leave you?

For the IT professional, the result is more exams and more fees to pay. It also means your certificate may not qualify you for other positions.

For example, your MCSE in Desktop Infrastructure is not the same as an MCSE for Server Infrastructure. Under previous standards, the MCSE certification covered all system technologies. So the certification has actually become less prestigious and older certifications with experience may now be worth more, even if they’re expired.

The only way to keep up is to train constantly and maintain each certification one by one. By the time you have them all, Microsoft will probably have made more changes and rendered all your efforts questionable again.

Random acts of kindness are a great way to bring joy to another person’s day. By doing simple things that involve being nice to others, you might just generate a sense of happiness that has a ripple effect across dozens, even hundreds, of other individuals.

Though started in New Zealand in 2005 as a single day, and observed there Sept. 1, Random Acts of Kindness Week has more recently caught on in the U.S. during the second week of February. During that week, you can do your part each year by performing one or more of the following ten acts of kindness for the benefit of strangers.

1. Share the space

The next time a rainy sky is dampening the pleasure of a walk, and you have a decent umbrella, offer a stranger headed in the same direction a little protection from the rain. Hold your umbrella high and ask someone to join you under cover from the raindrops.

2. Return the loot

If you spot someone leaving behind a purse, a wallet, or a cell phone, quickly pick it up and return it to the individual, even if it means you have to chasing him or her down and it’s out of your way. An extreme example of returning the loot was performed by a homeless man as reported by the Daily Mirror in the UK.

3. Let someone in

When you’re driving in traffic, it’s not always easy to change lanes. If someone needs to cross your path, stop and let their car in and you’ll ease frustration levels all around.

4. Pick up the mail

Perhaps an elderly neighbor is having a hard time getting to their mailbox and it’s beginning to overflow. Collect the mail and deliver it to their door; or knock and hand it over, and linger for some conversation.

5. Pay it behind

When you’re buying a movie theater ticket, pay for the admission of the person who’s next in line. This also can be done at toll booths: you can pay for the car that’s behind yours, and give those people a nice surprise.

6. Clear the path

During winter months, many driveways and sidewalks are covered with ice and snow. While clearing your own drive and walkways, clear a path for your neighbor. The same can be applied to warm-weather mowing: Just continue onto the neighbors’ property and take care of their lawn.

7. Hold the door

While heading into a building, hold the door for other patrons to enter first. Similarly, if someone’s loaded down with groceries and having trouble opening a car door, offer to hold the bags.

8. Give up your seat

If you notice that a mom and her kids are separated on a plane or a bus, offer to trade seats so they can be together. Or if someone who gets on the bus is forced to stand, offer the person your seat.

9. Thank your boss

If your boss is one of the good guys, let him know. Bosses don’t usually receive the praise, just the complaints.

10. Talk to everyone

A simple hello can make anyone’s day, but acknowledging a homeless person can give a great ego boost. Or go an extra mile and buy the guy a sandwich.

These are just a few simple act of kindness that can be performed during the week. Get creative and find other ways to surprise strangers with simple acts of being nice.

To help you get started, www.randomactsofkindness.org has hundreds of ideas.

It has been hard to watch the news and avoid references to the deadly ice storms that have swept across the Southern United States this year. From dozens of vehicles piled up in a line to large semis jackknifed across the middle of the freeway, it’s been a deadly winter for drivers.

But does that mean that truck drivers are responsible for causing an accident when their rig jackknifes in the snow? The repeated appearances of these dangerous snow and ice storms have made it difficult, even dangerous, for truckers to be out on the road. But drivers cannot stop moving freight just because of bad weather.

The nation relies heavily on supplies trucked all over the country. Also, truck drivers have rights, especially when it comes to accidents in inclement weather. Let’s take a closer look.

Inclement weather and accidents

There are laws that govern bad weather and motor accidents. For example, you can get a speeding ticket in bad weather, even when you are observing the speed limit. This is because the police have the option to cite you for going too fast in poor weather conditions, and that means you could be liable for reckless driving in a dangerous situation, when you haven’t exceeded the posted limits.

Truck drivers can contribute to accidents by not following the rules of the road under poor driving conditions. These laws go beyond what is merely specified by the rules, however. When people drive too fast in poor driving conditions, even if they stay below the speed limit, they can still be held at fault for any accidents they might cause. This includes truck drivers.

Laws for truck drivers

Each state has specific laws with regard to truck drivers. One law, in fact, requires truck drivers to slow down when driving conditions are hazardous, such as when snow or ice are present. Also according to that law, some commercial truck drivers are required to pull over and wait until the conditions are safe to resume driving.

That means in some weather conditions, a truck driver could legally be required to stop driving. Therefore, if a truck driver is involved in an accident during extreme weather, he or she may be liable for the accident if it is decided that the driver violated that statute.

Who is liable in this case?

While it might be the truck driver who caused the accident, in most cases the trucking company is held liable for any personal injuries that occur. This is especially true of the truck driver is told by the employer to drive in poor weather, regardless of what the law says.

Even if the driver chose to go against employer orders, the employer could still be held liable because it owns the truck and employed the driver who was on the road and caused the accident.

Drivers involved in a road incident, whether in the truck or another vehicle, should always consult an attorney as soon as possible after the crash. Because inclement weather cannot be predicted, and there are special circumstances in every case, the expertise of an attorney can help decide who’s at fault and who should be held liable in the matter.

Gray hair has always been one of the most visible signs of aging. To some, it’s a mark of distinction and sophistication. More often, however, people regard it as unwelcome sign of fading youth.

That’s why there’s a strong demand for solutions to gray hair. Researchers have regularly hinted at breakthroughs in this area, and we may finally be on the brink of some effective new solutions.

What causes gray hair?

Each person’s hair turns gray at a different age. The timing of the transformation is mainly genetic, though in some cases poor health or injuries can cause hair to turn gray prematurely. Though it’s widely believed that stress can cause hair to turn gray, this has not been proven scientifically.

The cause of gray hair is no mystery. Hair begins to lose its natural color when the cells responsible for pigmentation, called melanocytes, become fewer. This is a natural result of aging, though it happens to some people in their 20s and others in their 60s.

Popular responses to gray hair

There have been several ways historically to deal with the onset of gray hair. The simplest is to accept and even embrace it. Some people look better with gray hair than others. General attitudes also vary greatly.

For those who prefer to fight gray hair rather than succumb to it, dyeing is the most common solution. It can be done at home or at a professional salon. The higher percentage of gray in one’s hair, the more difficult the process becomes. While dyes are an effective way to maintain hair color, the procedure can be expensive and tedious.

Some people believe that gray hair can be reversed with the correct diet, or by taking certain herbs or natural supplements. Among the commonly recommended ingredients are blackstrap molasses, black sesame seeds, nettles, and wheat grass.

The herb He Shou Wu, also known as Fo-Ti, is used in traditional Chinese medicine as a general hair tonic as well as a remedy for gray hair.

Research suggests a new solution to gray hair

Some recent research on gray hair may have unearthed a more reliable natural solution. According to a report published in the FASEB Journal, it was discovered that gray hair is associated with the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide in hair follicles.

It was also found that an enzyme called catalase can be effective in reversing this condition. Several new gray hair products have become available that contain catalase. These items typically add other active ingredients, such as the aforementioned Fo-Ti and an array of herbs and vitamins.

The future of gray hair

Although people have been looking for ways to maintain their natural hair color for centuries, we may finally have identified a real solution. Many scientists and health experts predict that people in the future will be able to choose whether or not to live with gray hair.

When this will occur remains uncertain. What we do know is that a breakthrough in this area will likely be welcomed by millions of people around the world.

Family fun time these days often loses out to electronics and school activities. In the hope of reviving traditional family values, many places strive to provide a variety of activities for families if they agree to put away their computer devices and get some increased face time.

Here are some of the activities that bring a little real life back into the family circle.

Children’s museums

Children learn when they can get their hands on things. Water, blocks, science experiments, and old fashioned pretend play are what children’s museums are all about.

A children’s museum focuses on getting a child to learn some science or history, but when parents get down on the floor too, the learning happens together — and offline.

Farms

Farms are a wonderful educational opportunity for families. Some farmers will open their doors to speak with families about animal care and how our food is created. Traveling to a farm is an opportunity for the family to spend a great deal of time outdoors, and explore the animals, machinery, and fields of a real working farm.

Colleges

Colleges also open their doors to families for certain events. You can visit a college to find out how it operates, what it does exactly, and how students live.

Parents only need to watch their local college message boards to find out what’s available for families. Give your children an experience to remember, and perhaps they will choose that college close to home.

Local libraries and play groups

Many communities host play groups and other events at local libraries. To take advantage of these opportunities, follow library community boards or search for local play groups.

The effort is worth the time you can get away from the electronics. Parents and children spend time reading, socializing, and interacting with something other than a computer.

Seasonal activities

Many resorts offer activities for families year round. Snow bunnies can enjoy snowboarding or ski lessons followed by hot chocolate in the lounge.

Pools and parks offer family events in the summertime. Many outdoor events welcome family members of all ages and consider the children in their event planning. Finding a fun event for the whole family is simply a matter of searching the local event pages to find something that works for you.

Horseback riding

Nothing brings a family together like enjoying the landscape from the back of a horse. If your family loves to look at cute cat pictures or animals on the Internet, try getting up close and personal with a horse.

Many different cities offer horseback riding or mini cattle drives for the family. You can take the kids to view the Phoenix scenery, the mountains of the Northeast, or the deep majesty of the Grand Canyon on the back of a donkey.

Malls and shopping

Some malls have gone beyond the usual stores and built a true destination for families. These malls have places to climb, play, explore, shop, eat, and experience a full day of family fun. If there’s a mall like this near you, you’re in luck.

I’ve been fortunate to spend the last couple weeks hanging out with IK Multmedia’s iLoud bluetooth speaker/monitor. This is the first part of a 2 part review and will feature the basic information and usage as a Bluetooth device. Look for part 2 within the next couple weeks.

Unboxing -

Packaging and contents were straight forward. The iLoud came with a with a 3.5 mm male/male connector and a 2 part charger (14.4v, 2500 mA) with ‘Fullpower®’ branding and made by Shenzhen Yingyuan Electronics (szyingyuan.com). A small user manual, a registration card, and of course the iLoud (also made in China, designed in Italy) were provided as well. The iLoud felt sturdy and solid with no loose parts or anything that made me feel like this was anything but a quality product.

Setup

Setup was very simple but I had to wait for a while for the device to charge because, according to the Quick Start Guide, they “recommend fully charging… iLoud the first time you use it.” The LED on the back of the device indicates where you are in the charging cycle (orange while in progress and green when done). Pretty simple but with a 2 hour charge time, it does not have to be all that complex. Setting up Bluetooth was as simple as I could want and is illustrated in the GIFs below.

Turn on the power and look for the green LED

Press the Bluetooth button

Specs

For this section, I’m comparing the iLoud vs the 2 of what i consider to be main competitors for this level of device; the BIG Jambox and the Bose Soundlink.

* site says at max volume battery life is more like 3 hours. Once you hear it, you’ll know why.

The one main difference, and this is for you musicians out there – the iLoud is not only Loud but it does integrate with super cool IK Multimedia musician software – (only one)

Side view of the BIG Jambox, the iLoud and the SoundLink II

Front view of the BIG Jambox, the iLoud and the SoundLink II

Regarding output (Watts) for the competition, this is not a stat that’s readily available on the manufacturer websites. I can tell you in practice that the iLoud blows the doors off the Jambox and the SoundLink II (did not test the III). Playing different songs on each and turning up the volume all the way on all 3 devices, I can hear the iLoud clearly above the others. Sure, there’s a cacophony of noise but the difference is CLEAR.

Usage

The set up and usage of the device is very simple. For basic Bluetooth connectivity, all you have to do is charge it up, turn it on and press the Bluetooth pairing button. You can then manually adjust the volume using the large knob on the front of the device PLUS you can control via your phone. If you want to max out the out put you’d crank your phone volume all the way up and turn the knob on the iLoud until it blinks. Then you’re blowing out your eardrums. Seriously, it’s quite loud and not really needed unless you’re in a large area and are sending your music to a sizable audience. What I loved the most about the iLoud was the clarity of the sound and the clear bass. I thought the Jambox sounded good before this but the iLoud really supports the lows better than either the Soundlink II and the big Jambox. It’s not that either of the others sound bad, the iLoud just does a really nice job of supporting a nice range of sound and includes strong lows. While the iLoud is very easy to use and understand, I wouldn’t mind having some additional visual indicator that told me the sound level. If you’re between zero and maxed out, you can’t really tell the volume level. To be safe, I turn it all the way down and then work up from there since I’ve surprised myself with a loud blast of sound once or twice during the review period. The Red light around the volume knob looks cool but if you have very large fingers you might have a little difficulty turning it. The volume knob is set in to the body and the bevel around the knob is not that deep and not all that wide (again, if you had large fingers).

The device feel sturdy as I mentioned earlier and sits at an angle when placed on a flat surface. The iLoud has a little kickstand on the bottom that gives it some extra stability as well. (see photo).

For the musician – using it with a guitar with Amplitube is also quite easy and we’ll get in to some detail about that in our next installment of the iLoud review. Basically, the built in iRig circuit turns this device in to a sweet and very flexible monitor for the mobile and tech savvy musician.

So – What does it cost? According to the IK Multimedia website the retail price is $299 and you can get them at many, many retailers. Check the site, they have a dealer locator. If you are in the market for a very loud, high quality blue tooth speaker – please be sure to add the iLoud to your consideration list. It’s the same price as the BIG Jambox and Bose offerings, it sounds fantastic and has extra functions for the mobile musician (iRig integration). I’ve been using IK products for the last couple years and have had no issues with them at all so I would highly recommend that you check them out.

Starting an online business takes a little cash and a lot of know-how. Opening the digital doors to your own online business sometimes requires more passion and dedication than a brick and mortar store because there’s no building to contain it all the chaos. That’s right, a new business can be a little disorganized. So you’ve got to make every penny count toward the things you can control.

Read for four budget-friendly tips for starting your own online business. The goal is to go from Joe Schmo to CEO faster than your high-speed Internet connection can take you.

Skimp on Startup Equipment

The good thing about an online business is the traditionally low overhead costs on startup equipment. Everything important is tucked away behind the scenes so your customers won’t know what kind of computer you’re using. In the beginning, stick with the bare basics. This means that your $300 laptop with last year’s operating system will have to do.

Don’t skimp on the essentials. Remember that high-speed Internet? Yep, your online business needs it. Save the splurge for the surge and not the latest in high-tech gadgetry.

Browse for Bargain Web Hosting

Since you’re an online business, your web host is akin to a storefront’s landlord. You want to make sure they’re nice, and they won’t charge too much. Browse for bargain web hosting to get the best experience for your money. My BlueHost Coupon offers deals on professional web hosting with support.

In addition to web hosting, consider what other services the company offers. Email accounts, domain name, and setup are essential extras.

Learn to Wear Multiple Hats

Employees who can wear multiple hats to complete daily challenges are the cornerstones of startups. In the beginning, there will be many positions that your new company needs, but you can’t afford to hire. Here’s what they are and how to fill them in the meantime:

Web Designer – a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) website editor will be your best friend. It’s the cheapest way to design a website without much training.
Tech Support Assistant – re: Google. You’ll need to get comfortable solving your own problems, which means you should take advantage of the countless resources on the web that walk you through step-by-step fixes to common tech problems.

Customer Service Specialist – just because you’re behind a screen, doesn’t mean you won’t need to be a people person. Brush up on those retail and restaurant skills before you start sifting through that inbox full of complaints. Ignoring them altogether is the worst thing you can do.

Accountant – decide how you’ll accept payments. It’s best to settle on a software or service that does most of the work for you. Just don’t rely on the service totally as tech can fail. Be sure to track all your funds manually, and do create backups.

Marketing Manager – a business is nothing if nobody knows about it. Start reading up on promoting via social media, as well as how to create SEO site content.

Crowd Source More Support

Crowd-sourced support can go two ways: it can help you save money by finding like-minded workers who are willing to build your dream on a small budget, or it can help you make money by finding investors. Since you already know you’ll need to wear multiple hats for a while, focus on crowd-sourced support via sites like Indiegogo and Kickstarter for financial backing.

These sites have little risk, and lots of reward for dedicated entrepreneurs. The best part for new business owners: you rarely have to give up a portion of your company to get funds. You can make deals with early investors in the form of free products, acknowledgments, or whatever you wish.

If you’re always connected via your smartphone, it can feel like you’re working at all times. Remember to power down every once in a while, and you’ll be less likely to experience new business burnout – and more likely to succeed.

In today’s digital age, online advertising is by default the preferred mode of advertising by business owners. After all, who doesn’t own a device with internet connection and who doesn’t check or use such device regularly? Hence it is easy to see why one would naturally choose online versus traditional modes of advertising.

But traditional advertising remains equally effective and has also evolved to be more creative just like the introduction of taxi advertising. Clearvision Advertisement has begun creating taxi ads that can help promote a company’s product orbrand. In fact, recently, HBO commissioned them to run the Game of Thrones ads. HBO was happy with the outcome and will be running another advertisement soon.

So how does taxi advertising compare with online advertising?

Online Advertising

The Pros

It is cost-efficient. For a very small budget, you can already start running online ads such as Facebook Ads.

It can be highly targeted. As long as you know the basic profile of the target market you want to reach out, you can setup the ads to be shown to them particularly.

It is easy to setup. Most accounts can be created for free and as long as your credit card is connected to the site, you start creating online ads by following the directions on the site you are in.

The Cons

High competition. Almost everyone is using online ads and probablytargeting the same specific demographic group. The one with the higher budget usually wins the competition.

Target market might see the ad only once or for a brief moment since they are busy doing something else online and might take no heed of the online ad. Hence no action is taken with the ads.

Taxi Advertising

The Pros

Taxis operate on a specific geographic area and can also be used to target customers per geographic reach.

Customers see the ad more frequently and with lesser distractions since when they encounter the ad, their focus is on the street as either they are about to cross, walking along or looking for a cab to hail.

It is cost efficient and can provide the best value for your budget. Clearvision Advertisement makes sure that every penny you spent for taxi ads is worth it.

Competition is less fierce. There is only a finite number of taxis operating in the city and once you have ads in most of them; your competition is left with only the remaining taxis to place their ads on.

Ads are seen longer especially if you have a long contract with the taxi ad agency. Every time the taxi goes around the city, customers can see your ad.

The Cons

More costly than online advertising and lesser contract flexibility since a minimum contract period is required

Online advertising has its advantages and we do not discourage the use of such medium. There is a lot to be gained from it. However, traditional advertising methods still prove to be useful despite the largely technology-driven generation. In fact, the best marketing campaigns are where online and traditional advertising are combined to create one powerful message to the target market. Traditional advertising just have to be more creative than before to cope up with the complexities of these new generation. Taxi advertising is one such means where the traditional method is infused with a bit more creativity. Done right, it can be counted upon to produce great results.

Do you know any broke 20-something year-olds? The combination of YOLO (you only live once) lifestyle and heavy debt load is crippling this generation’s financial health. The average student debt load stands at a staggering $29,337. As a result, one in five adults under 30 are living in their parents’ home, and 43 percent earn less than $25,000. The hard reality is that many of these under 30-year-olds are living YOLO lifestyles in which bar hopping is preferred over saving. Over half of all adults under 30 admit they know very little about how to manage their finances.

They could start by spending less than they make and contributing to their 401(k). Going out and drinking less—and instead stashing that money away into a savings account would do them quite well.

If you are a broke 20-something year old or know one, take a look at the infographic below for some valuable savings tips.

In early 2015, the Barack H. Obama Foundation, a nonprofit group, will announce its recommendation for a site to host Obama’s presidential library, which will open several years after Obama leaves office in 2016. Hawaii, Obama’s birthplace, and New York, where he attended Columbia University, are possible spots that could host the library. It’s Chicago, however, that has to be regarded as the frontrunner. After all, it’s the city that gave rise to Obama’s political career.

The University of Chicago figures to be an obvious possibility. Obama was a constitutional law professor there for 12 years. Bronzeville Neighborhood is in the mix as well—it’s the city’s historic center of black culture, business and politics. Obama also has deep ties to Chicago State University and Pullman Neighborhood. He worked in both areas as a community organizer in the 1980s.

Which site do you think will ultimately host Obama’s presidential library? Please share in the comments and check out the infographic below to learn more!

Data makes the world go round, especially in the marketing business. Yet 50% of marketers agree that data is one of the most underutilized assets. Valuable pieces of information are going to waste by being completely ignored.

Marketers are trying harder than ever to gather data, but what to do with it once they have it is the tricky part. About 80% of customer data goes unused resulting in immature enterprise data “value chains.” Data is only as useful as the people analyzing it; investing in a good analytics team can give a company the information they really need and result in getting ahead. Analytics teams develop the hypothesis for effective marketing and are also responsible for learning and testing new approaches.

The goal of every marketer needs to be a unified customer experience that doesn’t require difficult integration and customization. Take a look at this infographic for more on the marketing trends of 2014 to keep an eye out for. Tell us what you think about it in the comments, and don’t forget to share it with your friends.

Arizona legislators are mulling changes in existing child custody laws that could prohibit custodial parents from changing their residence unless it’s less than two miles and allows the child to remain in the same school district. Current laws allow a parent to move within a 100-mile radius without approval from the legal system.

If SB1038 becomes law, a judge would no longer factor in what’s best for the parent, on the basis of career or otherwise, and his or her decision would consider only what’s best for the child(ren).

The potential fallout

The proposed changes could prove problematic. Custodial parents could face legal challenges from resentful, controlling former spouses who seek to interfere in the daily lives of their ex.

But advocates of the proposed changes say that they are long overdue, because cities have expanded over the last 20 years since the 100-mile rule was put in place. Non-custodial parents increasingly are forced to spend hours driving to pick up and return their children from visitation, which whittles down the quality time they would otherwise get to spend with their kids.

Other implications

Advocates say that another problem with the present law is that parents have used the 100-mile rule to make repeated, serial moves of less than 100 miles over a period of time, thus gaming the system and causing the non-custodial parent to have to add miles to his or her travel time to see the children and to attend sports and educational events.

The proposal also includes a 45-day notice requirement. For parents who rent an apartment and receive a 30-day notice to vacate, this can be a nightmare. Finding suitable housing within a two-mile radius that doesn’t require the court’s intervention may prove extremely difficult, even impossible, and will certainly be stressful and problematic for the custodial parent.

The current legal situation

The law as it stands takes into consideration whether the move will improve the quality of life for the parent and the child. Taking the parent out of the equation ignores factors such as a 90-minute to two-hour one-way commute to the job, which has a negative impact on the parent’s quality of life by reducing sleep and free time otherwise available to interact with the children.

Factoring in the parent’s quality of life typically improves the child’s living conditions as well, either in the form of increased time with the custodial parent or being able to enjoy a higher standard of living.

What the new law portends

The proposed law is evidence of a sea change in custody laws across the land, as courts have begun to weigh both parents’ rights more evenly in custody disputes in an attempt to divvy up time spent with the child in a more equitable manner than in the past. Non-custodial parents are becoming more vocal, and challenging the court system that historically ignored their position when making custody decisions.

If you’re a parent who would be adversely affected by the proposed law, you might want to schedule a consult with an Arizona lawyer who practices divorce and family law. He or she can review your case and advise you how to proceed.

If you’re considering the installation of new windows in your home, some advance research could save you a lot of money as well as get excellent value from whatever you choose to buy. Window installation can be an expensive proposition.

Also, the type of glass you select for your windows will have a direct impact on your energy bills for many years to come. You probably don’t want to choose the the kind of glass you’re going to be paying extra for over the coming decades.

If you’re not familiar with the range of options, take a look at the most common types of glass that can be used for windows.

1. Double and triple glazing

In most residences and businesses today, single panes of glass are not used very much anymore. The majority of windows found in homes are double glazed.

This is due to the fact that energy efficiency is primary concern for homeowners and builders alike. A double-glazed window consists of two panes of glass that have a spacer to connect them. Gas fills the space, so these are known as Insulated Glass Units (IGUs).

It’s also possible to triple-glaze IGUs. Triple glazing tends to be considerably more expensive, though. Triple-glazed windows are more typically installed in homes located in climates that experience extremely cold temperatures.

2. Fillings: inert gas or air

Historically, air used to fill IGUs. However, when air cools and warms, the movement of the air creates cold areas at the bottom of the panes and warm areas near the top.

This kind of heat transfer is reduced by the substitution of a less-conductive gas than plain air. This helps to improve the glazing’s performance and lowers the window unit’s heat transfer rate.

3. Low-E coatings

A coating that qualifies as low-emissivity (or Low-E) has a thin layer of metal. It’s applied by the manufacturer to a single side of the glass.

Even though the coating is difficult to see, it slows down the U-factor of the glass, which is a technical rating for how quickly it conducts (or loses) heat. In the United States, manufacturers will always subject the glass pane’s inner face to the Low-E coating as a way of protecting it from physical damage and harsh weather.

4. Tempered glass

Glass that is tempered is an outstanding choice for areas of the home where glass has a higher chance of getting broken. Glass that is tempered has been heat-strengthened. This is a process that’s capable of making the glass roughly four times as strong as glass that has not been treated.

If tempered glass gets broken, it is specially designed to crumble rather than shatter into many sharp and dangerous pieces.

Selecting the correct type of glass is a decision you probably shouldn’t take lightly. With energy prices constantly on the rise, it’s in your financial interest to do whatever’s necessary to reduce your energy costs as much as possible.

If you’re interested in purchasing a plasma cutter table, the EZ Cut 9600 CNC plasma table might be what you’re looking for.

The winter time seems to take the most mundane routines and turn them into full marathon-level activities. Getting up in the morning, commuting to work and visiting the grocery store become real chores. But despite its obvious inconveniences, the winter months can take an even higher toll. The fewer hours of sunlight and longer nights contribute to depression and affected levels of vitamin D and melatonin leaving us sluggish and tired.

In some, Seasonal Affective Disorder (aptly shortened to SAD) kicks in around mid-autumn and lasts all the way into winter. More common in those who have a family history of depression, symptoms include pronounced feelings of hopelessness, heaviness, and an overall disinterest in things you once enjoyed.

Fighting off the wintertime weariness isn’t hard, but it takes determination. It all comes down to simply taking care of yourself. Check out this infographic for more on how to melt away your winter woes. Tell us what you think about it in the comments, and don’t forget to like and share with your friends!

Buying a used car can be a chore, but if you do your homework, you can avoid driving off with a lemon and empty pockets. Used cars can save you much money over purchasing a new vehicle. Arming yourself with the advice offered in these used car buying tips will give you the advantage when you are ready to go out vehicle shopping.

1. Decide How Much You Can Afford

Even before you start researching vehicles, make sure you can actually afford to purchase a used car. It’s not worth going into debt because of your purchase. Smart shoppers will have a budget in place as well as financing options at the beginning of this process. Decide how much you can afford for a down payment and monthly payment. Once you have these two in place, you can then determine a realistic price range.

2. Select the Right Used Car

Never purchase a car on impulse; you need to find the right car to suit your needs. Besides financially, this vehicle should fit your driving habits, have the safety features and cargo capacity you need and be big enough to hold all your passengers. Your car should be functional above everything else.

3. Research the Vehicle

Besides checking on a car’s True Market Value (TMV), you will also want to research its safety features, fuel economy, resale value, reliability and standard features. Finding out a used car’s TMV can be done online at Kelley Blue Book. Make sure you also run a car history report on any vehicle you are considering. Companies like AutoCheck and CARFAX offer comprehensive reports based on the car’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). These can tell whether the vehicle has been in an accident, has a salvage title or if the odometer has been rolled back.

4. Check Reviews

Now that you’ve narrowed down your search, find out what others have to say about the vehicle. A used car dealership or private owner will tell you what they think, but it’s best to find out what the professionals think. You can find car reviews and road tests online at various reputable sites. Consider downloading a mobile app to your phone or tablet so you can utilize this information at any time.

5. Get a Second Opinion

Unfortunately, if you want to make sure you are not buying a lemon, then you will need to have an auto expert inspect the vehicle. For about $100, a mechanic will examine the mechanical. safety and appearance aspects of a vehicle including tires, frame, suspension, brakes, hoses, belts, fluids, battery and body condition. If the seller won’t allow you to take the vehicle to be inspected, use a shop that offers mobile inspections.

6. Does It Come with a Warranty?

Get in writing the type of warranty that comes with the car. For example, certified pre-owned vehicles from dealers typically come with a warranty provided by the manufacturer. However, if you are purchasing a car from a private seller, you will need to inquire if one is available. You can purchase one on your own, but make sure you really need it.

7. Test Drive the Vehicle

Finally, take the car for a drive, not only around the block, but on a main road or highway. Spend some time at different speeds, checking the breaks, turn signals, mirrors, etc. All this is important when determining if the used car you’re testing is suitable for purchase.

Keep these tips in mind when you’re ready to purchase a used car.
