Just because there is a pandemic underway doesn’t mean that your apartment lease is likely extended. Rather, you’re still going to have to find an apartment to rent. Here are some helpful tips for finding a new place safely.
Search Online
One of the best ways to search for an apartment is to look online. Sure, not all apartments in your region for rent are listed online. However, many of them are, with pictures. It’s best to find a potential apartment online as you can preview it many times before setting up a showing. This will help to narrow down your selection pool to only those potential apartments that you’ll actually want to rent.
Avoid Physical Contact
You may have found a couple of apartments that may fit the bill. Now, it’s time to schedule your showings. This is done as normal. However, there are a few precautions that you want to take. First, although it’s common practice to shake hands when you first meet someone, resist the temptation. Offer them a smile and a nod before you enter the luxury apartment. If they seem offended, simply state that you’re limiting physical contact due to the pandemic. That’s a completely reasonable explanation.
Avoid Touching Things
While it can be human nature to want to touch the various components of a new apartment, try to avoid doing so. The most you should be touching are light switches and door handles. You should be sanitizing your hands after touring the apartment. If you want to be extra cautious, simply put on a pair of gloves to tour the place. They don’t have to be latex gloves. They can simply be winter gloves that won’t raise any questions from the person showing you the apartment.
Spend A Day Cleaning
Once you’ve found that perfect apartment, you need to plan a day for cleaning. This means wearing a mask and disinfecting the surfaces around your new place. Be sure to hit every spot including door locks, under cabinets, and so forth. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to cleaning out your new place.
Finding a new apartment in the wake of the pandemic can seem like a stressful task. However, the above four tips will help you to get through it with ease. Just remember to take your time and find a place that you’ll be truly happy to sign a new lease for.
