If you're lucky, then you've never been in a vehicle accident. However, for those who have been through that ordeal, there is the realization that a lot of common if significant injuries occur from the impact and related issues. As much as you'd like to think that you're safe inside a vehicle, as soon as you start moving at high speeds, the potential for greater injuries increases.

You can have severe bruising from various types of impact. And then there may be the mental anguish that comes as part of the package deal. Ideally, you need to do your part to stay safe, but you can't control other drivers.

Broken Bones

Depending on where your bones hit various parts of the car, breaks are very possible. Depending on how you're sitting and where the impact comes from, you can break arms, legs, wrists, collarbones, and many other places. Airbags have done a lot to counter some of the most injurious breaks, but that doesn't mean that they are perfect, especially if you get thrown around after impact.

Spinal Injuries

If you hit a car head-on or get hit from behind, you may suffer from whiplash. The effects of this type of spinal injury may not hit for a few days after the actual wreck, but then you find out just how painful and pervasive it is. In many cases, you need to contact spinal cord injury lawyers to find out if there's any way you can get compensated, or potentially even what kind of treatment you need if your injury is impacting your life negatively, especially in the long-term.

Severe Bruising

Severe bruising can also occur in a vehicle accident. The position of airbags makes death or bone breakage much more unlikely, but between the airbags and seat-belts, you can get pretty severe bruising across your chest and even along your face and neck. The good thing is that bruising means that a more significant injury did not occur. The bad news is that bruising still can be extremely painful as it heals.

Mental Anguish

A final concept to think about when you're going over the potential injuries associated with vehicle accidents is the mental side effects. Car wrecks can be emotional events. If someone is injured, they can associate cars with this feeling of pain, and the anxiety of being in a car can stick with them for a long time. A fear of driving can remain a consequence of a car accident. And even things like PTSD or long-term nightmares can be one of the results of a serious enough accident.
