One out of every four people suffers from anxiety and stress.  Although most people think of stress as an emotion, it can take form physically leaving you feeling extremely uncomfortable and ill.

Often anxiety sufferers have issues sleeping and handling stressful situations without losing control emotionally.  Anxiety is also accompanied with dietary issues like overeating or undereating.

If you’ve been feeling particularly tense and even experiencing extremes such as panic attacks, it’s essential to get to the root cause of where it all started.  By identifying the cause, you can move towards a solution.

Here are some of the most common reasons why people develop anxiety.

A Traumatic Incident

Experiencing a traumatic event which was emotionally painful or shocking can lead to developing fears and stresses.  Even though we may not realize that it affected us immediately, it can often remain repressed and come up later in the form of anxiety.

Events such as getting into a car accident, experiencing death, or even going through a painful breakup can cause emotional damage which leads to anxiety.

Anytime memories of the event are evoked, the person starts to feel uneasy and tense, and may begin to feel angry and panicked.

Try to think about whether something in your past may be coming up to the surface.  It may be worth talking to a professional therapist about.

Not Enough Sleep

Although many people aren’t able to sleep as much as they would like because of their busy schedules, it’s important to try to find the time.  Sleep isn’t only crucial for your physical well-being but also your mental well-being.

People who don’t get enough sleep are often more susceptible to stressful situations and often irritable.  Make sure that you are getting at least eight hours of sleep a night so that you can function at your best.

Poor Diet

Although you may not realize it, diet has a lot of influence on your mood.  People who eat a lot of high fats and sugars are generally more charged emotionally and feel uncomfortable.

When you eat foods which are full of chemicals and preservatives, it can make you feel uneasy and bogged down with unnatural substances.

However, when you eat a diet which is full of all natural sources and healthy vitamins and minerals, you feel energized and less susceptible to stress.

Lack Of Support System

Mahy people who live far from their family and friends are anxious because they don’t have a support system to help them when they're down.

A sense of community and belonging is crucial, particularly when you’re faced with adversity.  If anxiety is a recurring issue in your life, then you may want to strongly consider relocating to a place which is closer to your support system.
