When you step into an Uber you usually do so because it is cheaper than a taxi. But do you ever stop to consider why it is cheaper? Oftentimes Uber drivers don’t have the coverage or background checks that taxi drivers are required to have. This has led to a series of lawsuits, not just against Uber drivers, because standard private insurance often doesn’t cover passengers of ride sharing accidents in the case of a crash. Many ride sharing services offer additional coverage as part of the driving contract, but it is often unclear who is responsible for what in the event of an accident.
Currently about fifteen percent of American adults are ride sharing users, and a significant portion of them use ride sharing on a weekly or even daily basis. For hire crashes have tripled between 2014 and 2016, and lawsuits have subsequently gone up as well. Learn what you need to do in the event of a ride sharing accident from this infographic! Maybe that cheap ride isn’t going to turn out to be all that cheap after all!
