Why are Americans dying at younger ages than they were in previous years? There are a lot of factors in play, but perhaps the two biggest ones are obesity and opioids. Americans are more obese than they ever have been before, which can lead to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and other indirect health issues that can snowball. There is also an opioid epidemic caused by legally prescribed pain medications that are being given out for anything and everything, leading to addiction and overdoses. These things have finally caught up to us, giving us one of the worst life expectancies in the developed world.

America’s life expectancy is 28th in the world, while we rank first for obesity. Nearly 30,000 people die each year from overdoses, and that is on the rise. There are a lot of preventable deaths occurring, so why aren’t we focusing on preventing them? Learn more about why America’s life expectancy is in decline from this infographic!
