Planning for a vacation can be an exciting and stressful time, but planning a vacation that includes all your little ones can present a whole new degree of issues. While you want to be frugal, you also want to be comfortable and have certain conveniences available for your kids and your own sanity.

For this reason, picking the right accommodations for your family vacation is crucial. But with so many options out there, how are you to know what resort or hotel will be right for your specific group of people? To help you out, here are three things to look for when you’re trying to pick the perfect accommodations for your next family vacation.

The Right Room For Your Size and Lifestyle

Although many families don’t plan on staying in their rooms a lot throughout their vacation, the room or rooms you decide to stay in can often make or break your vacation. Without a room you and your family can feel comfortable in, you may not be able to take full advantage of all your vacation could offer. Especially with children, not having what you need in a room could be detrimental to the functionality of your trip. This could result in having upset kids, scrambling to find what you need, and ending up with a vacation that’s more of a headache than a relaxing getaway.

According to WhatToExpect.com, families should look for rooms that have a kitchenette, a bathtub to bathe the kids, and a place for each child to sleep comfortably. Without these things, managing a vacation with children can be nearly impossible, especially if you’re trying to keep to a budget. So before you pay upfront for your room at your chosen resort or hotel, be sure the room will fit the size of your family and your lifestyle appropriately.

Understanding What is Meant By “All-Inclusive”

Especially when planning a vacation where children are involved, the phrase “all-inclusive” can be music to the ears of parents. When certain aspects of your vacation are automatically included in your accommodations, it saves you both time and money when planning and prepping for your trip. However, Sarah Greaves-Gabbadon, a contributor to the Huffington Post, advises parents to double-check just what your accommodations mean when they say “all-inclusive.”

Greaves-Gabbadon shares that there are some things you may assume would be included in an “all-inclusive” package that could actually be add-ons. Some of these features may include airport transport, room service, wi-fi, certain menu items and more. Without the prior knowledge that something isn’t part of your “all-inclusive” package, you may have a big surprise when you see your bill at the end of your trip. To avoid this, make sure you know exactly what your specific resort or hotel means by “all-inclusive” by checking out their parent website beforehand, like Las Vegas Sands Corporation, for example.

Amenities You’ll Actually Use

When you’re planning a family vacation, it’s a good idea to be as fiscally responsible as possible. While you want to have fun and enjoy yourself, it doesn’t make sense to pay for something that your family won’t actually use, does it? For this reason, be sure you’re paying for amenities you’ll actually use when you’re booking your accommodations.

According to EnlightenMe.com, some of the best and most common amenities to have included by your resort are recreational activities, dining, access to cultural events and local attractions, and a spa. However, if you know your family doesn’t enjoy cultural event or spa treatments, picking accommodation that include this feature in their price doesn’t make a lot of financial sense in your situation. So before you settle on a resort or hotel to spend your time and money on, make sure you’re only getting what you want and not paying for amenities your family won’t or can’t use.

While there is a lot to consider when picking accommodations for a family vacation, it may actually be easier to find what you need than you anticipate. Think hard about what you want and need to make your family vacation a success and don't deviate from those features. Use the tips mentioned above to help create your accommodations checklist in order to have the best family vacation imaginable.
