Fans who are counting down the hours until the December 18 premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens may want to visit a Verizon store very soon. That's because starting on Wednesday, December 2, custom Google Cardboard virtual reality viewers featuring Star Wars-themed designs are available exclusively at select Verizon stores around the U.S. Using these viewers, fans can experience “Awaken the Force Within,” a video content series that ties in to the film.
This series of nine virtual reality missions, which are delivered to fans via the official Star Wars app, are each important unto themselves, but together build toward a reveal that is connected to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. For a truly immersive virtual-reality experience, the content is best viewed using Google Cardboard, and the viewers available exclusively at Verizon stores feature custom designs based on popular Star Wars characters: Kylo Ren, R2-D2, BB-8 and the classic Stormtrooper. They're available free of charge to Verizon customers while supplies last. It's all part of Verizon's #WhyNotWednesday program, which delivers the best of the digital world to consumers every Wednesday.
The collaboration with Google is an extension of Verizon's “Force of a Better Network” program, which provides fans with insider access to Star Wars: The Force Awakens content. Verizon is also an official partner of the film.
