Practice makes perfect, and nowhere is this more evident than in the art of pitching to the media.  Good pitches don’t happen overnight- they take a lot of practice.  Here are a few tips on how to improve your pitching game.

For starters, get to know the person you are reaching out to.  If this statement confuses you it may be because you are used to sending mass marketing emails.  Stop doing that.  Each pitch should be crafted to suit the needs of the individual.  Stop thinking about pitching as getting someone else to do what you want them to do.  You should be working to build relationships with people based on mutual needs.  They need something to write about and you have something they might find relevant.  It’s time to start a conversation.
