A Traveler’s Guide to Staying Safe and Saving Money [Infographic]

Will you be traveling this spring or summer? With tight budgets and safety a concern, there are some important things you should keep in mind. When you’re buying a plane ticket, use rewards cards. A few good ones to think about are Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, Starwood Preferred Guest Card and US Airways Premier World MasterCard.

It’s a good idea to pack two bags—a very high-quality 25-40 liter travel pack for clothes and solid cosmetics, and a smaller travel bag for everything you might need in your seat, including your cell phone, snacks and passport/ID.

Once you arrive at your destination, immediately get a hold of your bags and use a nearby ATM to get local currency. To really enjoy your stay and save money, stay in hostels our couch surf. Use Yelp to avoid touristy restaurants and bars, and be sure to make friends with locals. Learn about their culture if you can. Remember to always have a watchful eye over your belongings.
