Modern medicine is nothing short of a miracle. Treatments and vaccines for once fatal illnesses are now commonplace, saving millions of lives every year. But at what cost? Are all these medicines really helping us, or are they just helping germs and bacteria grow stronger?
A trend has been identified within the medical community of bacteria that seem to be immune to the traditional medical treatments, including antibiotics, known as superbugs. Apparently, by becoming so reliant on drugs and antibiotics, our immune system itself is weakened. Counteractively, the very drugs that were created to help us heal, are making us sick while also helping harmful bacteria grow stronger. According to the CDC, two million people in the United States develop bacterial infections that are resistant to antibiotics and at least 23,000 of them will die from it.
