The winter time seems to take the most mundane routines and turn them into full marathon-level activities. Getting up in the morning, commuting to work and visiting the grocery store become real chores. But despite its obvious inconveniences, the winter months can take an even higher toll. The fewer hours of sunlight and longer nights contribute to depression and affected levels of vitamin D and melatonin leaving us sluggish and tired.
In some, Seasonal Affective Disorder (aptly shortened to SAD) kicks in around mid-autumn and lasts all the way into winter. More common in those who have a family history of depression, symptoms include pronounced feelings of hopelessness, heaviness, and an overall disinterest in things you once enjoyed.
