The Rise of Veganism [Infographic]

Veganism is one of the fastest growing diet trends; but is it really just a trend? People every year are seeing the benefits of going vegan whether it be for their personal wellbeing or to support animal rights. Rosie O’Donnel, Al Gore, and even Usher have all gone vegan for their health, while Ellen Degeneres and Alec Baldwin went vegan out of concern for animals and the environment.

Even though the United States population is just 1/20th of the population worldwide, we eat 1/6th of the total meat consumed worldwide. However, even with those statistics, American consumption of meat is on the decline. Beef consumption has been steadily dropping for 20 years, and chicken and pork have shown a steady downturn over the past five years. In 2012, we consumed 12.2% less meat than we did in 2007. Veganism has more than doubled since 2009, growing from 1% of the population to 2.5% of the population.

If you’re a vegan now, what made you decide to make the switch. If you’re not a vegan, would you ever consider trying a vegan diet? Take a look at this infographic for more and let us know in the comments. Don’t forget to like and share with your friends!
