Cats have a naughty side too that seems to intrigue us humans. After all, there are just as many memes of sinister, plotting cats as there are of cute or funny cats. Unlike dogs, cats don’t have to try as hard to get our attention.

The Egyptians had the same level of obsession with cats—they considered cats to be protectors and even demigods. Cats were mummified and buried as any other demigod.

When humans got their hands on cameras, it was all over for cats as we know it. Harry Pointer was probably the progenitor of the shameless cat picture. Pointer often arranged his cats in unusual poses that mimicked humans. Cats also seem to feel good around us humans—a Mexican research group found that cats appear to be more relaxed and more ready to explore when around their owners.
