4 Fun Facts About Travel in The City of Dubai
Ever since Dubai was featured on the Sex And The City movie some years ago, it has become a place of interest among us Americans. People want to know more about this mysterious and wondrous city, and this article does just that – we cover a few minor fun facts we found online. From biking with locals to one of a kind structures and attractions, the city of Dubai offers lots to see and do.
Dubai is known for its decadence and excess and is not for the faint of heart. It’s a city filled with lots of high priced glam and glitter, but there’s plenty to see and do for the budget minded as well. This article covers a few of those things and also dispels a few myths or simply provides a few fun facts about the city also known as the “City of Gold”.
1. World’s Tallest Tower Resides Here – this tower officially opened to the public in 2010 and is known as the worlds tallest man-made structure. It’s over 2,700 feet long and when viewed in pictures looks like an insanely massive structure making everything else look tiny. The tower took 6 plus years and cost over a billion dollars to make. It houses office space, luxury apartments and more.
2. Indoor Skiing, Anyone? – ever heard of indoor skiing? They offer it in Dubai to the tune of 6,000 tons of snow and yes – it’s all indoors. Located inside the Dubai Mall, this is a complete ski slope resort with a chair lift and t-bar, 10 ramp and even a daily “March of the Penguins” where guests are treated to well – penguins.
3. Dubai Mall – according to Wikipedia, this is the largest mall in the world “based on total area” and it houses traditional American department stores such as Bloomingdales and Marks and Spencers, along with some specialty UK and euro shops. It’s also known for having the world’s largest candy store appropriately named Candylicious that measures over 10,000 square feet. This mall is visited by over 750,000 visitors every week.
4. Biking Has Become Quite Popular – biking wasn’t always popular in Dubai, but as of late has picked up pace.
