xbox-games-on-demand

With the recent release of the Wii U, many consumers overlooked Nintendo's main competitors this holiday season. However, game consoles tend to get better with age, and Xbox 360 owners have plenty of sequels, prequels, reboots and spinoffs to look forward to in 2013. Here are a look at the most anticipated 360 games coming out this year.

BioShock Infinite

The third BioShock game takes the series in a different direction: the sky. Players control detective Booker DeWitt in a rescue mission that takes him to Columbia, a city floating in the clouds, where he find himself in the middle of a civil war. Infinite will have many of the features that popularized the series, such as allowing the player to make choices that steer the plot. Screenshots suggest that the game will have political undertones; in one scene, a man wearing a George Washington mask blasts through the streets of Columbia with a machine gun.

Gears of War: Judgment

In this prequel to the other games in the Gears of War series, players control the Kilo Squad during the direct fallout of Emergence Day, when the alien Locusts first launched their attack against humans. New features in multiplayer mode, including an “overrun mode” that lets players control teams of Locusts, are sure to have boys and men alike yelling into their headsets.

Tomb Raider

After a successful remake of the first game just a few years ago, Tomb Raider is ready for a reboot. The 2013 Tomb Raider disregards all other TR games and tells a new story of a young Laura Croft saving a shipwrecked crew from wild animals and mercenaries. Tomb Raider's gameplay will feature the same action-adventure fair that made Laura Croft a household name, along with some stealth elements.

Grand Theft Auto V

The latest installment in everyone's favorite open-world car jacking game is set in Los Santos, San Andreas, which developers Rocktar North have claimed is bigger than the three previous GTA game settings combined. Players will control three characters who fall into the criminal underworld and travel diverse terrain, from suburbs to military bases to beaches to the ocean floor itself.

South Park: The Stick of Truth

South Park fans who have bitter memories of games like Chef's Luv Shack will be glad to know that Obsidian Entertainment worked closely with the show's creators to make this title. The Stick of Truth is a role-playing game in which players create their own character and is tasked helping Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman ward off invading crabpeople, underpants gnomes and, of course, ginger kids.

Injustice: Gods Among Us

Injustice is a comic book fanboy's wet dream. This fighting title developed by the makers of Mortal Combat pits the likes of Batman and Superman against one another. Other playable characters include the Green Lantern and Wonder Woman.

DmC: Devil May Cry

Campcom and their Ninja Theory development team claim that DmC is not a prequel, remake or reboot. The game takes place in an alternate reality within the Devil May Cry universe. Players control Dante in good ol' hack-and-slash combat with a few new mechanics added on. In addition to his signature sword and pistols, Dante can enter Angel Mode, in which he wields a scythe and gains an agility boost. Of course, Dante also has a Devil Mode, which gives him great physical strength at the expense of his speed, in addition to various telekinesis and time alteration skills.
