With everyone having a social media profile on multiple sites, it's easy to get caught up in checking your Facebook, Twitter, or just looking at other's status updates. Some workplaces have jumped on the “Yammer” bandwagon even, meaning they have a social networking site within their company. But, is social media getting in the way of your work?
Microsoft did a study on interruptions in the workplace by social media, and the results may just surprise you. On average, employees have over four interruptions per hour. These interruptions were categorized as “a nuisance” and over% of disrupted tasks were not immediately resumed. Which when being distracted from your work and not resuming immediately can mean a loss in production.
