Graphic Design is Good for Business [Infographic]

On average, a graphic designer will make around $48,000 a year. However, the average salary in Bridgeport, Connecticut is $78,353 with a cost of living rank of 147 and 38% of workforce in creative class. The other top places for design jobs today include Salt Lake City, Utah with an average salary of $55,064, Newark, New Jersey with an average salary of $40,000 a year, San Antonio, Texas with an average salary of $46,203 and Austin, Texas with an average salary of $54,827.

There are many things to consider before making graphic designing your career. The top five things to consider are your job title, what position you will be taking when relocating for a job. Not to mention, whether it is in a town or city, the education needed and whether there are better prospects with better education, experience and if there are better positions available with more experience and where you are working; whether you are working for yourself, for a small business or even for a large design firm. Graphic designers actually have a 26.3% average of self employment.

Graphic design has before been described with this quote from Tim Brown, “The evolution from ‘design’ to ‘design thinking’ is the story of the evolution from the creation of products to the analysis of the relationship between people and products, and from there to the relationship between people and people.” Web design is clearly in evolution and when deciding on making it your career, know that now more than ever, we face complex problems that designers are uniquely capable to solve by integrating technology, business and human factors alike. When starting up with web design, be sure to have a proper website display and interaction on any device, avoid “painting lipstick on a pig” by including a designer from the get-go, make sure to stand out with a good design and transcend culture as well as language barriers, and remember the goal is a pleasurable overall experience; functional beautiful and simple. In other words, they want to ensure they are hiring the right people for the job and it might as well be you.
