It’s not all fun and games when your teen sucks at driving. With more teens causing car accidents than anyone, it’s no wonder annually 1/5 of accidents are caused by 16-19 year olds. Teens also have the highest chance of having a fatal crash within the first six months of getting their driver’s license. With a statistic so high, you can’t help but take all precautions when teaching your teen to drive.

Distractions are the the reason why these new drivers don’t have the best track record. Nowadays with every teen having a cell phone, it ups the distraction level immensely. Using a cell phone can double the likelihood of an accident and can slow a young driver’s reaction time to that of a 70 year old. More than half of teens that own a cell phone admitted they talked on their phone while driving. And more than 1/3 of 16 to 17 year olds say they have texted while driving.

With all the distractions out there; cell phones, grooming, radio, and drugs, it’s no wonder these student drivers are involved in wrecks. Distractions can all lead to other issues like speeding and tickets. So, before your teen hits the open road, be sure they know the dangers involved.
