Believe it or not, your Xbox is not the only high tech appliance in your house that can bring you some joy. When it comes to kitting out your kitchen or bedecking your bedroom, wouldn’t it be cool if everything was just as high tech and fun to use as your gaming station?

Here are my top 6 appliances that tech lovers will go crazy over (hint: the cheaper ones make great gift ideas)…

Boozy Ice Pops

1. Zoku Quick Pop Maker
It’s a hot summer’s day and you’d kill for an ice-cream, but the freezer’s empty. What do you do? Well, you could nip to the shops but it seems silly just for an ice-pop, or you could make your own at home, but that takes hours and hours, doesn’t it?

Enter the Zoku Quick Pop Maker. Thanks to some very funky freezing technology, your fruit juice, yoghurt, milk or cream can become a delicious and ice-cold snack in as little as 7 minutes! You can even make filled-core ice lollies for a truly delicious summer snack.

2. Michael Friebe Transparent TV
There was a time when your telly was the size of a small fridge. Thankfully, with a little modern technology they’ve been getting thinner and thinner with ‘slimline’ now coming as standard. You might even joke they’ll get so thin they become almost invisible…

Michael Friebe has launched a very cool new TV that combines standard LCD with the much more high-tech TOLED display technology to allow for a totally solid image when switched on, but a crystal-clear, see-through screen when off!

Water Spire

3. Manon Leblanc WAT Lamp
Surviving on nothing but water may not be in the foreseeable future for the human race, but technology is another story. Manon Leblanc recently invented a super cool, super eco-friendly lamp called the WAT that is powered solely by, you guessed it, water.

Okay, it’s not powered totally by water – it does have a small battery inside made from magnesium-coated carbon – but all you have to do to switch it on is tip in some water and let natural electro-chemical reactions work their magic and light up some LED lighting strips. It’s like having a mini hydroelectric power plant in your own home!

4. Byeong Min Choe Printer-Monitor
It’s the stuff of science-fiction films. Imagine seeing a cool image online you’d like to print and all you do is select the area of the screen you want, and out it pops from the bottom of your flat-screen monitor!

This funky Polaroid-inspired computer monitor has a hidden ‘pocket’ at the back that acts as a paper feed, and a super narrow slit at the bottom of the monitor where the printed document comes out. Have you ever seen a cooler computer monitor, really?

American soda

5. iSi Twist and Sparkle
Coming back to the original foodie theme, here’s another wonderful little kitchen gadget to brighten up your day. Craving a fizzy soda but don’t want to go out and buy some? Now you can make your own sparkling drinks at home!

Simply pour your drink of choice into the Twist and Sparkle, whether that’s water, fruit juice or something a little more exotic, twist the lid into place and let the ‘magic’ wand fizz it up in no time, no batteries or electricity needed! How long does it take? Oh, only about sixty seconds!

6. Piotr Pyrtek Tulip Bath/Shower
Got a small bathroom? No worries – just get a 2-in-1 bath and shower! No, I’m not talking about the standard power showers fixed over the bath tub, but rather this fantastic ‘pod’ that is shaped like a tulip and opens or closes depending on whether you’re in the mood for a bath or shower.

Plus, it also has underwater jets and massage programmes, for your own mini spa at home. The only downside I see is that it is a little creepy looking when closed, kind of like being inside an alien egg… Think I’ll stick to Triton showers in my own home!

These are my six favourites but there are plenty more high-tech appliances out there – which ones top your list?
