my facecard iconmy facecard is an iPhone app that has just launched that looks to bring digital contact cards to, “better suit the needs of an increasingly social, mobile and web-based world.”

The app brings with it integration with traditional business card information (name, address, phone, etc.) and also social network profile links including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Tumblr and Blogger, on an exchangeable and updatable digital card.

Nothing really new here right? I could run down a long laundry list of apps that do similar tasks. But keep reading – there are differences with my facecard…

Customization and interaction are cornerstones of the my facecard implementation, similar to a traditional business card, my facecard incorporates a two-sided digital card and lets users design each with personal images and a variety of fonts. Users can tap a contact's mobile number or email address to call, text or email friends from a single location within the app. Users trade cards by adding a contact phone number or by simply bumping phones together. (I hope they received the proper licensing to use bump-type functionality. Would hate to see a legal firestorm brew over this).

Along with the customization and interaction capabilities, another aspect of my facecard that I like is the auto update. You figure, people are are managing multiple social media platforms and swapping updated information as you meet new contacts can be a pain. my facecard lets users input all their details into the personalized digital contact card and exchange it with friends, colleagues and new acquaintances. Anytime my facecard details are changed, updates are syndicated instantly to all my facecard contacts, so connections always have the current contact information automatically. I like that! Obviously, everyone will need to be on my facecard to fully take advantage of this, but the vision is good.
