I purchased a second replacement battery for a phone today, from Amazon. Upon checkout I came across this screen:
I had not seen this screen before so it got me to thinking, is Amazon going to make a push into social purchasing, much like Blippy does currently. Blippy, if you do not know, is a service that allows you to track and share all of your credit card purchases. This could be some as innocuous as your recent song purchase from iTunes to your indulgence purchase at Godiva chocolates. Blippy does have some permissions built in that allows you to control what is shared.
I realize that putting sharing buttons for Facebook, Twitter, and Email does not constitute a completely social strategy, but what other company is in such a great position to be able to create, and monetize, such a social purchasing sharing network?
There are not many companies that have the information base, customer base, or even the ability to pull off this type of feat, but Amazon is in a great position to do so given their mindshare, data mining abilities, and utilization of current social networks. All of these put Amazon in a great position to create a social sharing network that does not encompass just one type of product, but any of the millions of items that are sold through Amazon. It is just a thought, it may or may not happen, only time will tell.
