I have a problem. One that is a good problem to have.

Our post about the crazy addictive music streaming site turntable.fm got retweeted by Robert Scoble.

When that happened a good number of his 190,000 Twitter followers headed to this site.

Now, I’ve had the pleasure of being listed and referred to on large new organizations before (our Sacramento Kings and Klout post on INFOtainment News here got picked up by ESPN and SportsbyBrooks). But this was different; with all that Scobleizer traffic and the stumbling from StumbleUpon – THE Tech Scoop ended up choking all over itself and started spewing database connection errors all over the place. Dealing with my current shared hosting service and trying to adjust database settings was not the way I wanted to spend my evening last night…

It’s great to finally be all grown up with our blogs, but that does bring me to my current predictament – I need to find a “real” hosting company to migrate the HicksNewMedia web presences to.

Who do you recommend? I’ve got a short list of organizations that I am familiar with and would like to get the feedback from our readership as to the new home for THE Tech Scoop.

  • Congrats on all the traffic! I have had that happened to my site a couple of times as well after a huge RT or share. It sucks when you know many are trying to view your site and can’t because it cannot keep up. I moved from Hostmonster (blah) to Hostgator shared hosting. But I am still thinking about getting a VPS because I have a few other sites that I need to get up and have them run fast without choking!

I have never heard of most of the companies that you listed, but I don’t know much on that honestly. I have not researched into too many hosts just yet. But I know that you cannot do WP on Squarespace. You would have to rebuild with their engine I believe.

If you want to check out Hostgator which seems to be working well for me, let me know. I have an affiliate link and nice coupon code. 🙂

    Good luck with your move.

    • Thanks Kris ! I’ve gone with a company called Zippykid. I met the CEO
and one of their lead techs at WordCamp Reno a few months ago. So far
      I’m really happy
