At 8 am, the sales for iPad 2 started on Apple Store in Beijing’s shopping area, Xidan. Hundreds of customers lined up in a queue to buy the 33% slimmer iPad tablet. It is also available now in white or black color with better performance than its predecessor and has a couple of cameras to boot.

Currently, the iPad 2 is only available in Wi-Fi version. It is currently priced lower than the old version. For the 16GB model, its price tag is 3,688 yuan ($567) while it is tagged at 4,488 yuan ($691) for the 32 GB model and the 64 GB model costs 5,288 yuan ($814).

Some people stayed overnight to get first in line. Meanwhile, scalpers, who usually ask for a markup of $20-$60, also queued in line.

An industry analyst in China predicts that the iPad 2 will account for half of the total iPad sales in China in the second quarter of the year.
