While the champion of Super Bowl XLV and the winner of American Idol are highly anticipated “must knows” of 2011, arguably, interest in the identity of SEAL Team 6 who daringly raided the Bin Laden compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan this past Sunday may actually surpass them both.
In terms of Super Bowl and American Idol winners, it is only a matter of time before their identity is revealed. But as for the super secretive elite operative team, their identity will undoubtedly remain anonymous. We can only pour our adulation into Hollywood action movies portrayed by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
To further fuel the mass public's intense spike in interest in the SEALs, a new member of the SEAL team has been added to the mix: Team 6's canine companion during the raid. The identity and breed of the new SEAL team member has not be released, but the breed is speculated to be either German shepherd or Belgian Malinois.
As reported by ABC News, military dogs have been deployed unofficially as early as the Civil War and was used officially inducted into the U.S. army during World War II. Like their human counterparts, they are trained to parachute, rappel, and swim into battle, and have the ability to detect bombs. The powerful bite of a German shepherd has the force between 400 and 700 pounds. Military dogs have become valuable and indispensable assets to the U.S. military.
I can understand the need to protect the identity of our country's elite operatives, but how about throwing us a bone and give us the identity of their canine companion?
How about taking your head out of ……? Information like this will make ID'ing the team easier as one only needs to look for a sailor with a similar dog, which is better trained than a pet. It's the real world not hollywood, where the hero walks into the sunset with the girl. There will be alot of effort put into getting the names of the team, so they can hit them and more likely their families in a revenge move. That'sok because your curiosity will have been titillated. War is not a John Wayne or John Kerry movie, welcome to the big boy big girl world.
