It appears as there may be a growing trend to take the flash mob concept, which is normally utilized for choreographed and impromptu-looking dancing and singing from a large group of random people, and instead turning that crowd rush and using it to do more and more mischievous acts – such as was caught on surveillance video in the Washington D.C. area.
This particular incident happened earlier this week at the G-Star Raw store in the 1600 block of Connecticut Avenue, NW. The store's surveillance cameras captured pictures of about 19 teenagers coming in all at once, and heading straight for the high-end denim fashion and menswear.
It is extremely unfortunate that our youth, and people in general, are resorting to these criminal acts.
If nothing else, I'm glad that no one was assaulted during this bum rush. Hopefully the police will continue to increase their presence in the area and catch as many of the thieves as possible.
Along that line – if you have any information about this event please reach out to the D.C. Police Department at 202-727-9099.

Now look, I'm not trying to sound high and mighty. Trust me, I've done my share of dirt back in the day, so I can most definitely relate to the “how” and the “why” something like this can go down. I'm also wanting to state that what I've done wasn't right either; I'm just using this forum to showcase, share and solicit conversation about how we can reach our youngsters to prevent something like this from escalating into bigger and more serious crimes.
Looking for some spirited conversation in the comments below.
