Recently, there have been a number of legal disputes involving Apple, Microsoft, Motorola and Google. This time, Apple filed its own lawsuit against the South Korea-based company, Samsung.
The charges claim that Samsung phones and computers infringe the trademark and patents of Apple’s own smart phone (iPhone) and tablet computer (iPad). With regards to patents, Apple argues that the Galaxy gadgets operate the same way as their products. The Google’s Android operating system-based Galaxy phones and tablet were specifically designed to copy Apple’s gadgets, according to the suit.
Samsung is also accused of copying other items including icons and even packaging.
Apple does present some valid points like the products look pretty similar from the structure of the phone and user interface. This development will likely mean one less competitor if the action favors the Cupertino, California-based company, though it will most likely not harm the competition.
It was not really surprising that Apple is defending its rights, patents and trademarks. If you would recall last month during the iPad 2 announcement, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs billed 2011 as the “Year of Copycats”.
With this case already in court, many would wonder what would happen to the relationship of both companies as Samsung is a supplier to Apple. Will they still provide components and chips?
