Samsung and Digitas recently announced the launch of The Smart Living Room, an interactive microsite that aims to make movie watching a deeper social experience.

Integrating personalization technology from Hunch, The Smart Living Room invites movie viewers to learn more about their own and their friends’ movie interests, and ultimately create a customized, social movie watching event.

“We believe TV viewing is an inherently social experience, and The Smart Living Room brings consumers one step further by giving them access to an immersive world of content and functionality that they can share,” said Ellen Kim, Vice President, Marketing Group of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “With our partners Digitas and Hunch, we’re continuing to transform the viewer experience by taking an imaginative and fresh look at everything we love about watching TV.”

After a viewer answers a series of Hunch personality questions, The Smart Living Room creates a personalized movie recommendation including the genre best suited for that viewer as well as movie title suggestions. The viewer can then create a movie watching event by inviting friends and family through Facebook or email. The site utilizes dynamic CG animations to offer the viewer entertainment and surprises throughout the experience.

A Facebook tab on the Samsung Televisions brand page will launch in connection with the microsite, offering another place for visitors to get recommendations with the Hunch technology and to learn more about their TV Profile.

Upon global rollout the Smart Living Room experience will launch in approximately 20 local markets and will have TV and Digital media support in corresponding markets.
