IDG World Expo, owner of Macworld 2011, recently released the results of a new survey of more than 3,400 people pre-registered to attend the forthcoming Macworld Expo 2011.
The survey found that an overwhelming majority (76.2%) of registered attendees plan to purchase products for their Apple devices – including the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad – on the show floor.
Most of the respondents (88.6%) are interested in accessories for their device(s), 73.2 percent are in the market for hardware and gadgets, and nearly 65 percent are looking for new software. Many of these shoppers are also planning to spend upwards of $150 on their purchases (36.8%).
To meet a clear demand for opportunities to purchase products on the show floor, Macworld 2011 has worked closely with exhibitors to offer special discounts on some great products. To date, more than 18 companies – including Apparent Software, Blue Microphones, IK Multimedia, Kanex, LensPen, LogicKeyboard, RAGE Software, Sonoma Wire Works, ThinkOptics and TruePower – are signed on to offer product specials and discounts to attendees. The shopping experience at Macworld – where attendees can touch, try and then take home innovative products designed for the Apple products platform – is unique in the trade show industry, which is why both major names and independent developers choose to showcase their products at the show. In fact, 90 percent of products at Macworld are not available in Apple stores – Macworld is the one place where people can try and buy them all.
The survey also uncovered some fun facts about iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users, including the kinds of apps they use most often. Interestingly, more people use photography apps (52.1%) than those for fitness/exercise (15.7%), sports (20.1%) or even social networking (47.6%). Additional findings include:
- 75.4 percent use apps for email
- 64.9 percent use apps for music
- 62.1 percent use apps for news
- 60.3 percent use apps for weather
- 56.7 percent use apps for games
Apps in many of these categories will be on display in the Macworld 2011Mobile Apps Showcase. This special area of the show floor will feature the latest innovations from iPad, iPhone and iPod touch app developers. Apps on display in the Showcase will include those designed for productivity, organization, fun and learning, creativity, music, photography, health and work.
In addition, the survey found that pre-registered attendees are also planning to use their device to help stick to New Year's resolutions. For example, more than 70 percent indicated that they will use their device to remember important dates, more than 46 percent to stay on time, close to 43 percent to listen to music while they work out, and more than 40 percent to organize and share photos. In addition, nearly 68 percent are planning to use their device to pay bills online as a way to be greener in the New Year and 51 percent to quickly look up medical information as part of their commitment to stay healthy in 2011.
Macworld 2011 will take place January 26-29, 2011, at Moscone Center's West Hall in San Francisco and we at THE Tech Scoop will be reporting LIVE bringing you all the latest and greatest information right from the show floor.
