Kindle3 is the new upgraded ereader from Amazon and was launched on 28th, July 2010. The older model has been a market leader at Amazon for the last three years and this upgrade with added features is set to keep Kindle at the top for years to come.

The Barnes and Noble Nook, iRiver Story and Sony’s two recent upgrades are competitors in this strong market. With technology moving at a rapid pace and increasing demand for ereaders, there will be regular upgrades of most of the current ereaders. Newer ereaders are cheaper, smaller, lighter, easy to use and have very long battery life on a single charge.

The new Kindle is significantly better than the older models. It is 21% smaller and 17% lighter with no loss in screen size. It weighs 421 grams, less than a paperback and the rubberised back makes it extremely comfortable to hold.

With the Kindle you can browse the Internet using the Whispernet. There are two new models, the Kindle WiFi and the Kindle 3G/WiFi. The WiFi accesses the Internet from your Router while the 3G/WiFi allows you to roam. In the ereader market, the Kindle is competitively priced if you take into consideration the excellent added features.

Amazon says that a charged battery will last for a month if the WiFi is not used, and it has storage capacity for over 3,500 ebooks. The screen has excellent contrast ratio and enables you to read in the brightest sunlight without glare. The E ink technology makes the text look real as in books and there are stories of people trying to peel the pages.

With the WiFi facility, you can easily download your chosen ebook and start reading in minutes. The Amazon ebook store is rated very high and provide a good service.

Kindle has several good features. It has crystal clear contrast, long battery life and good storage with an internal flash memory of 4GB. This is 3,500 ebooks. It is light, slim and comfortable. It has a very fast refresh and page turn feature and you can browse the web.

Although there are many good things about Kindle, there are a few bad ones. It does not support EPUB and there is no port for addition added memory. It comes in only one colour-grey. By reducing the general size, the smaller page turn button is now fiddly.

Several people find Kindle and other eReaders a better option especially when reading in bed. However, if you frequently fly or travel for business reasons, Kindle is a very acceptable alternative to heavy hardbacks, paperbacks or bulky documents. Makes a great Christmas gift too !!
