Flipboard: Your Social Magazine 1Before I write another word – let me say, when this company goes public – I want shares !!!

That may tell you the type of non-bias review I'm going to do on this iPad app.

Here's the scoop, Flipboard (@flipboard) was released in the Apple App Store early today touting itself as “the world's first social magazine.”

What does that really mean? Essentially, those of you with an iPad can very cleanly, and very quickly establish a personalized digital magazine of the items within the interweb that matter directly to you.

By allowing you to connect your Twitter and Facebook accounts along with a decent array of web feeds, you can quickly see what the people in your social circles are posting, liking, and linking to on the web.

The man who seems to be everywhere, Robert Scoble (@Scobleizer) should be credited with the initial public announcement of this app with the following video he did at the Flipboard offices with the CEO and co-founder Mike McCue (@mmccue)

What I especially am impressed with is the overall user interface and interaction – it's very similar to the iPad RSS reader I use, Early Edition, so the idea of flipping through pages of content is not a negative to me. Hell, I even like the Ansel Adams-ish initial screen when you first launch the app as it cycles through the latest content within your social streams.

Throughout the day there have been other posts written and direct tweets from the likes of Jack Dorsey (@Jack) and Alyssa Milano (@Alyssa_Milano) touting the coolness of the app. That being said, Flipboard is already experiencing some growth pains – initially this afternoon when I tried to connect my Twitter and Facebook streams within the app, I received a friendly worded note that “due to the popularity they would be deploying new servers throughout the evening”. Luckily around 7pm PST I was able to get my accounts all dialed in.

This is day 1 for this app, it's very fast, very slick, and pretty darn cool. What I think they need to add next would obviously be integration with Flickr, maybe LinkedIN, and the ability to incorporate our own sections of RSS feeds, instead of just those chosen by Flipboard.

That being said, for the very good price of FREE, I highly recommend you check this out. It's in the the App Store at the link here.
