Foot fault or not. The adrenaline of the moment got Serena disqualified during her U.S. Open match against unseeded Belgian Kim Clijsters.
The line judge claimed that Serena made a threat of “I'll kill you” to the judge. It's heard in the audio that Serena states that “others have said worse” – listen very closely to the audio.
It's unfortunate all around.
Here is the video of Serena's post match interview
Update: After all the dust has settled, it appears as though Serena will be writing a check to the U.S.T.A for $10,500 as punishment for her…outburst; that's $10,000 for all the f-bombs and $500 for what's being called racket abuse. On the other hand, she will still play in the doubles match with her sister Venus on Monday. Their opponents are scheduled to be Cara Black and Liezel Huber.
Oh and by the way, Kim Clijsters went on to win the whole thing Sunday. She defeated Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, 7-5, 6-3
