Michael Phelps Screws Up Big Time

Michael what were you thinking man ?!

phelps_big_0102This past November Phelps was hanging out at the University of South Carolina in Columbia and partied way more than he should have.

Apparently Phelps was there visiting a girl he was dating, Jordan Matthews.

At a house party on November 6, as noted by a source, “He arrived with a group of girls hanging all over him. Jaws hit the floor when he walked in. You don’t get many celebrities in Columbia, so when Phelps comes to your party it’s a very big deal.” The source continues by stating “He didn’t know many people so you’d think he’d be a little shy. But he was loud, obnoxious and slamming beers from the get-go.”

“Every girl wanted a piece of him and every guy wanted to be his best buddy. He couldn’t get enough of all the attention.”

Seems that when a student offered him a glass bong engraved with red writing, he did not hesitate. You could tell Michael had smoked before. He grabbed the bong and a lighter and knew exactly what to do, according the the source.

This story was originally broken by the News Of The World British website.

Now, I still love Michael Phelps for he story and his accomplishments. I especially love the close knit relationship he has with his mother. But this is so ironic and such a contrast to what we’ve all, globally, become to expect from this young man (yes 23 years is young, but he knows right from wrong). Hence, check what he lists as his favorite quote on his personal website.

favorite quote: “Actions speak louder than words.”

Michael Phelps released the following statement today (2/1/09) acknowledging the photo:

I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.
